A look at the taglines for this week's major releases. How do studios try to hook us when they only have a sentence?
Alice In Wonderland
Actual tagline: You've got a very important date.
Do I? What an obvious choice- I wonder why the marketing nowhere chooses to explain that this is a story about Alice returning to Wonderland as 19-year-old (not just a version with an older Alice).
Can I just say Tim Burton needs to direct something less whimsical for once? Even though it went terribly, terribly wrong, I respected the attempt at something different with the Planet Of The Apes remake.
And I'm kind of tired of Weirdo Johnny Depp. We get it, you're a pirate, Willy Wonka, now the Mad Hatter. Good for you. What happend to Serious Actor Johnny Depp?
Brooklyn's Finest
Actual tagline: This is War. This is Brooklyn.
Look at the Trailer for me and tell me the tag shouldn't just be "This is The Departed meets Training Day!"
You got Don Cheadle as the undercover good guy, and Ethan Hawke as not a mole but a cop corrupted by drug money. Two sides of a drug war with one traitor apiece.
