This Week In Actual Movie Taglines

A look at the taglines for this week's major releases. How do studios try to hook us when they only have a sentence?

G. I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra

Actual Taglines: Evil Never Looked So Good, and When All Else Fails, They Don't

Yeah! This movie is so badass it needed two slogans on one poster, one for the good guys (to remind you that they're our last resort against mysterious, green, Eiffel-tower-eating mist) and one for the bad guys (to let us know that even if they fail, in the end, they will look great in very tight spandex doing so).

Julie & Julia

Actual tagline: Passion. Ambition. Butter. Do You Have What It Takes?

Well, I have passion (but not for cooking). I have ambition (but not to be a chef). I'm not well stocked on butter, though.

I like that this tagline applies pretty directly to Julia Child's half of the story (i. e. do you have what it takes to revolutionize the cooking world?), but a lot more metaphorically to Julie Powell's (do you have what it takes to cook a year of recipes for no discernible reason other than learning some life-lessons? and do you have what it takes to blog about it? (we all have what it takes to blog, btw)).

A Perfect Getaway

Actual Tagline: 6 Strangers. 2 Killers. No Getting Away.

The tagline for this horror movie seems like a simple one, but I find myself with endless questions. Does "6 Strangers. 2 Killers." mean that there are eight total people, or six? Are the two people that are killers working in tandem, or is it just an improbable coincidence? That would be nuts: Oh, you're a killer too? Wow, what are the odds? Out of just six (or eight) people!
